  • Instagram moves to expand its advertisement unit!

Instagram announces its plan to expand its advertisement division by giving small and large businesses the opportunity to use the platform for branding.

Since its launch about a year and half ago Instagram has become a bona fide social media platform and today the officials at Instagram gave a major announcement. Instagram will be working towards giving access to all types of businesses, large or small to use Instagram ads for branding objectives.

The announcement comes 18 months after Instagram launched its first advertising scheme and the new development will be able to garner more revenue for the photo sharing social platform.

Previously Instagram only allowed a selection of advertisers for partnership to air their ads on their site for the past eighteen months. However the partnership with selected major brands was merely a pilot project and Instagram is now going in for the big money by allowing partnerships in advertisement with all types of businesses either local, international, small or large scale.

According to the announcement Instagram will be allowing target based advertisement which technically means we will see more of the ads they seem to think you like based on our personal information.

People will see ads in different formats that are targeted at their relevant interests based on the data Instagram will sell about users such as age, gender, location, demographics and interests.

The announcement by Instagram also shared how it will soon be launching the ‘Direct Response’ ads. The ‘Direct Response’ ads will allow users to buy, subscribe or install whatever item the ad is selling by sampling clicking on it.

All of these new features won’t be released immediately but will gradually be introduced by Instagram. Since Instagram has more than 300 million users currently who spend about 20 to 25 minutes on the pp daily it seems like the perfect opportunity for both Instagram and advertisers to make serious money.
