Xiaomi unveiles a new Wi-Fi router with 6TB Storage


Xiaomi is back with another mind blowing router

Xiaomi’s press conference in Beijing had a few interesting gadgets in store to show to the world. Two of the most interesting gadgets were the new Mi Wi-fi and Yeelight (a smart bedside lamp) Coming over to the new Mi Wi-Fi first. Xiaomi had already enjoyed a fair amount of success with its original Mi router which sold a hefty two million units. Building upon that success, the new generation is looking to take Xiaomi to new heights of success.

The next generation Mi Wi-fi boasts faster and more stable dual band Wi-Fi 802.11ac support. It comes equipped with an ‘enterprise-class’ PBC antenna array backed by the powerful 1.4 GHz Dual Core Broadcom 4709C processor coupled with 512 MB of flash storage. Onboard storage is also promised thanks to Seagate or Toshiba surveillance. You have the option to use it either as a simple NAS or in tandem with Xiaomi’s proprietary tools that feature remote downloads, automatic backups, remote access to files and many more features which have received the customer love from current generation of Xiaomi routers.

The next generation of Mi Wi-fi routers comes in two variants. The one with 1 TB of storage is priced at CNY 699 ($115), whereas the 6 TB of storage will set you back CNY 2999 ($485). Xiaomi has also launched an array of accessories to compliment it’s new Mi Wi-fi router. Xiaomi Wi-fi magnifier is a compact Wi-fi extender and is priced in at CNY 39 ($6). Xiaomi has also launched Yeelight, a stylish bedside lamp.

It can be easily programmed to allow users to control or change the light intensity, temperature and even the color. All this is done through touch controls on the light itself and can even be done via Bluetooth through a dedicated app. Yeelight is set at a price of CNY 249 ($40).
