AT&T wants to put blazing fast fiber optic internet into more cities

AT&T has announced that it is looking at bringing its ultra fast fiber optic internet service to more cities around the US. AT&T is looking at bringing the service to up to 100 additional candidate cities. The company will be meeting with local leaders in those communities to talk about ways to bring the service to the community.

AT&T has already selected a few cities that will be getting the faster internet service, and those cities were announced a while back. The cities include Austin and Dallas and advanced discussions in Raleigh-Durham and Winston-Salem.

The first 21 of the cities that /4/get the 1Gbps internet service includes Atlanta, Augusta, Charlotte, Chicago, Cleveland, Fort Worth, Fort Lauderdale, Greensboro, Houston, Jacksonville, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, Oakland, Orlando, San Antonio, San Diego, St. Louis, San Francisco, and San Jose .

“We’re delivering advanced services that offer consumers and small businesses the ability to do more, faster, help communities create a new wave of innovation, and encourage economic development,” said Lori Lee, senior executive vice president, AT&T Home Solutions. “We’re interested in working with communities that appreciate the value of the most advanced technologies and are willing to encourage investment by offering solid investment cases and policies.”

There is no indication at this time of when the fast internet service might be available in these areas. Presumably, the install is a long time out since it will take months or more to install a fiber optic network in any of the cities.
