Apple has hired the luxury Swiss watch brand TAG Heuer’s sales director to help it in its iWatch launch.
Apple will enter in the wearable market in style. Apple is really thinking big as regards its iWatch. As the launch of Apple’s much awaited iWatch is approaching, the Cupertino firm is making some big decisions.
Apple is said to launch its first ever iWatch using the renowned “Swiss made” label. LVMH’s head of watch brands, Jean-Claude Biver, told CNBC that its TAG Heuer‘s sales director had left last week, “to make a contract with Apple” in order to help the firm in its iWatch launch.
Apple has not commented yet on the news. Three Swiss watch making firms, TAG Heuer, Hublot and Zenith are owned by LVMH. And Biver is happy for his sales executive as it is a great opportunity for him to work with Apple.
“If it had been a direct competitor, I would have felt a bit betrayed, but if he goes to Apple I think it is a great experience for him,” he said.
Apple’s iWatch is expected to get launched later on this year. Apple has reportedly tried to hire a number of employees from high-end Swiss watch makers. But Apple has not succeeded till now.
Apple wants to launch its iWatch in style. And the Cupertino, Calif based firm also wants to provide its users a quality smart watch. That is why, Apple hired a Swiss watch sales executive to launch its iWatch under the “Swiss made” label.
A senior luxury goods analyst at Bernstein, Mario Ortelli, said that “Swiss made is a label that is synonymous with quality when it comes to watches.”
“For sure they are trying to approach the Swiss manufacturers, but the Swiss have got no great interest in working with Apple – if you are a luxury producer and you cooperate with Apple, you have got a dilution,” Ortelli told CNBC.
Apple’s high-end Swiss made iWatch will not only be a threat for the low-end Swiss watches, but also for the other smart watch makers like Sony, Samsung and Pebble. The high quality and luxurious looking Apple iWatch can really heat up the competition for the rivals.
