Brett Ratner is in talks with Warner’s TV division to turn the Rush Hour series into a TV show. Bill Lawrence will be the runner for the show and we can anticipate a hearty good cop time on the show. The question is whether Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker will be reprising their roles as Lee and Carter on the TV show?
Lee and Carter are heading to your TV sets. Almost everyone has watched the Rush Hour movies and enjoyed them thoroughly. Carter’s ‘seven-eleven’ talking style or Lee’s cool Kung Fu fighting made up for the most thrilling ninety minutes in a movie. A little bonding between the two cops never went unappreciated and their ability to blow up everything and still ‘save the day’ was impeccable.
What made this cop duo great was Jackie Chan’s and Chris Tucker’s chemistry. We got to witness some of it on the gag reels that were always included at the end of the movie.
Jackie Chan is a natural at playing a cop in Hollywood movies but Chris Tucker did not let Jackie overshadow him. He rather complemented Jackie unlike any other actor had. It was like Owen Wilson in Shanghai Noon and Shanghai Knights.
After coming to L.A., moving to China, blowing up Vegas and fighting over the Eiffel tower, the Rush Hour fans still wanted to see more of their favorite cop duo. The talk of a fourth movie has been hanging in the air ever since the release of the third one. Director Brett Ratner finally seems to have made up his mind.
Rush Hour might not get made into a fourth movie but it is being adapted into a TV show. At first, without any network backing, the show was only an idea but it seems to be gathering some speed. Brett is talking to the Warner’s TV division and Bill Lawrence (Scrubs and Cougar Town) has agreed to be the runner on the show.
The fans have some reservations about Brett being the executive producer of the show regarding what he did to the original X-Men series but we can hope that Brett has learned from his mistakes and he will not make the same ones again.
As long as Brett remains true to the spirit of the movie’s original story, it is bound to be a good show. Bill Lawrence has a good record and we can rely on his good luck to rub off on the nascent show. We can only hope that remaining true to its essence; we might see Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker reprise their roles or appear in the show as other characters.
