Apple will also provide each teacher with both an iPad and a Mac and will equip classrooms with Apple TV.
Apple’s $100 million pledge to President Obama’s ConnectED initiative is the nudge that the education sector needs to employ more technology into the programs. As a result of the fruit giant becoming a part of this initiative, students in around 114 schools across the US are going to get free iPads. Support for Obama’s project was first announced by Apple this year in the month of February and now the time has come for the company to put its promise to reality. The ConnectED initiative by the US President aims to give students access to high-speed internet and Apple is playing a very important role in this by providing students with the platform.
Apple’s ConnectED page says that up till 96 percent of the students in each of its 114 chosen schools are eligible for free iPads or at least for getting price reductions. Half of these schools fall into urban areas meaning there are students from different backgrounds including Black, Hispanic, Native American and Asian. We are glad to know that Apple is considering minorities and thinks it is important for it to pay attention to them so they can benefit from technology. Apple has said that it sees “the results of this and other forms of inequality every day”, as “minorities are significantly underrepresented in the technology industry.”
Well, this isn’t all that Apple has in store for the initiative. Apart from the lucky students, the teachers are also going to get both an iPad and a Mac and classrooms will be equipped with Apple TV. Special education teams will be assigned by the company to oversee each school, tailor curricula for the needs of every institution and work with providers to ensure students and teachers have WiFi or cellular connection, as well.
