Acclaimed Hollywood actress Elizabeth Norment passed away at the age of 61. Her sister Kate confirmed the news and contributed that Elizabeth died on October 13 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. The cause of her death is still unknown.
Norment’s most recent role was Nancy Kaufberger, the loyal executive secretary to the cunning politician Frank Underwood which is played by Kevin Spacey, on the Emmy nominated Netflix series House of Cards.
Executives at the show’s production company stated that Elizabeth Norment was a talented actress with a beautiful spirit that touched the entire House of Cards family. The show’s writer Beau Willemon stated that everyone at House of Card’s is deeply saddened by the loss of Elizabeth.
She was a very good friend to all of us and a talented actress. The writer also added that it is unclear how the show would deal with the loss of Elizabeth. Kevin Spacey’s twitter account read “RIP Elizabeth Norment. We all loved her and she leaves a void in all of us here at HoC’s.”

“Everyone at House of Cards is deeply saddened by Elizabeth’s passing. She was a talented actress, a warm soul and a good friend to us all,” series showrunner Beau Willimon said in a statement.
“Elizabeth Norment was a talented actress with a beautiful spirit who touched the entire House of Cards family,” execs at MRC, the production company behind the show, added.
Before Elizabeth Norment became a celebrated actress in Hollywood, she used to live in Washington, D.C, with her family. Born on December 31 1952, she spent her childhood in Germany and Japan as her father was an administrator in CIA.
Elizabeth went to the University of Chicago for two years and then transferred to Cornell University as it had a broader theater program, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature. Further she received her master’s degree from the School of Drama in 1979 before moving to Southern California in 1983, where she starred in Beethoven’s Tenth for a Los Angeles production.
With determination and regular hard work, Norment developed a loyal fan base and great reputation. She has been a part of memorable shows such as St. Elsewhere, Party of Five, ER, Mad About You, Blue Bloods and NBC’s long running series Law & Order. On the big screen she obtained small roles in The Woman in Red, Runaway and Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion and played Eunice Kennedy in the 1985 CBS miniseries Robert Kennedy and His Times.

However all this success would not have been possible had it not been for her early stage career at Milwaukee Repertory and Los Angeles Colony Theatre. Her stage credits included ‘As You Like It’ and ‘Much Ado About Nothing’.
Apart from her sister Kate, Elizabeth leaves behind her mother Nancy, her two other sisters, Sarah and Martha, her brother Clarence and six nieces and nephews. Elizabeth Norment will always be remembered for her astounding personality and her love for theater. Her whole life revolved around theater and it is shown by the fact that she loved to act in Shakespeare’s plays.
