Apple Watch could overtake the competition in the fitness tracking market.
The world of wearable fitness trackers has been finally coming into its own, after years of companies trying and failing to get in on the action. At long last, however, companies like Fitbit and Jawbone created devices that have found an audience, although Apple’s offering could potentially put their market share at risk in a big way.
Apple is a company that has a huge fan base built in to every product launch that they do. They typically wait for other companies to open up a market and, by studying what they do wrong, find a way to make it their own and take charge of the niche. That is precisely what they are doing with the Apple Watch, since it will be the most technically advanced fitness tracker to date and have the Apple quality that people know and love. At $349, it is also cheaper than people were expecting. Even if someone has never had a desire to track their runs or measure their activity levels, this could be something that changes their mind.
There is a problem that might stop them from taking over entirely, though. Sleep tracking is a very popular part of fitness tracking devices and, due to the battery life of the Apple Watch, it won’t be capable of doing that. Without this, there will still be a market for other wearable devices. At least, until Apple finds a way to make the battery last longer and start tracking sleep.
Even without the sleep tracking features, the Apple Watch is going to be an incredible device that changes the fitness market forever. Stay tuned to find out when it will be released and whether or not they add sleep tracking capabilities.
