Designing the iWatch was more challenging for the team than designing the original iPhone

Apart from the Apple iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, the iWatch is one of the most highly anticipated of all products from the fruit giant. After all, this is going to be Apple’s first step into the wearable market and Apple fans simply can’t wait to see what it would look like. We aren’t so surprised after finding out that the smartwatch is going to be based on the same design philosophy which the company usually follows for all its products however Apple’s chief designer, Jony Ive, has said that the process of putting the design of the watch into reality was quite challenging; even more so than the original iPhone.

Ive revealed this information at a live event at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art on Thursday when he was awarded with the 2014 Bay Area Treasure Award for his revolutionary work at Apple on the iPhone and iPad. Ive says that the factors which made the job quite a hassle was to keep things according to the “cultural, historical implications and expectations” which people usually have with the smartwatches. This explains why “it’s been such a difficult and humbling program.” He also explained how the expectations of the consumers reach sky high with the creation and release of a new ‘wearable’ device, and “as soon as something is worn, we have expectations of choice.” This is predominantly because consumers usually don’t want to end up wearing the same thing.

This goes on to further explain why Apple wants to release the iWatch with three versions of the Apple Watch, starting at a price of $349. There will be two different sizes for the smartwatch and each one will have a different strap design. This is going to offer more choices to the consumers and increase the likelihood of a customer finding the perfect thing to match their taste. There is going to be the contemporary Apple Watch, the Apple Watch Sport Edition and the Apple Watch Edition.

The iWatch was unveiled in September this year and you will be surprised to know that Apple has been working on it since the past 3 months. Ive expressed the relief at having to finalize everything for the device since the entire process was quite daunting for not only him but for his entire team. Apple is not just keeping up with the technology but it is also ensuring that the style is kept intact. For that purpose some fashion experts have been brought into action. They include designer Marc Newson and former Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts and they are apparently going to help in aspects of the design that will help it ring more in sync with the consumer and market expectations.

The iWatch is expected to make its way in the markets by early 2015 and so far no specific information has been given on this topic. The CEO Tim Cook says that this is going to be worth the wait. As we said earlier, the watch is going to start at $349 which would be for £300 in the UK; the price includes £216 plus 20% VAT and a little more Apple Tax.
