Microsoft’s decision to release Office for iPad was the best thing they ever did and it was taken by excitement by almost all the users. If there was one thing missing on our favorite tablet then it was this Office platform which upon release was taken with so much popularity and soon soared high up in the app charts. This of course didn’t come as a surprise because ever since the Apple tablet came out in the market, people had been hoping to see this development. We are not saying that Apple’s iWork solutions are disappointing; they are fine too but obviously nothing beats Office when it comes to high standard quality of work.
However, even with the release of the Office on iPad, the problem of the iPad users wasn’t entirely solved. Though the app was free for the iOS users, the editing wasn’t. You could download Word, Excel and PowerPoint absolutely free of cost but the app wasn’t functioning exactly according to the expectations of the users.
You could only view the office documents but not edit them and that sure sounds like something very frustrating. But there is a solution for this; in order to take advantage of the fully functional Office, you would have to subscribe to Office 365 which unlocked the full potential of the software. While many recognized the value in being a subscriber, it is a hard sell when Apple’s offerings are much more affordable (or free with a new iPad).
Microsoft’s response to this was to make the editing feature free and they thought this would solve all the problems. This wasn’t enough to make to them happy; those who had already paid for the subscription were quite disappointed. But the great news is that you can get a complete refund of the subscription money now. Microsoft has said, “If you’re already an Office 365 Home or Personal subscriber, you’ll continue to have access to premium features on your iPad, like tracking and reviewing changes in Word, customizing Pivot Tables in Excel, and checking your speaker notes while you present in PowerPoint.”
The statement further says that “in addition to unlocking premium features on your iPad and iPhone, you can install full Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and OneNote) on your PC or Mac, back up and share files with 1TB of OneDrive online storage, and make calls to landlines and mobile phones with 60 Skype world minutes per month (where available). Plus, you always get the latest version of Office”.
So in a way we can say that the company is acting pretty smart and is looking for ways to somewhat soften the blow by talking up the other benefits of Office 365 and we think this move is pretty right. Despite the fact that the iPad features are now free, there are still great reasons to continue as a subscriber, such as the desktop version of Office and unlimited OneDrive storage. But in case you had only subscribed for the iPad features, you can have your money back in a full refund now.
