Will the Long-Awaited Chevy Volt Crossover be a Reality?

NAIAS 2015 originally known as Detroit Auto Show, is a perfect forum for General Motors to unveil the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid. The audience is curious to know what is behind the curtain and particularly they are very much interested regarding the fate of Chevy Volt Crossover.

The North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January offers an ideal place to introduce vehicles of the future. Curiosity regarding Chevy Volt Crossover originated when General Motors filed to protect the name “Chevy Crossvolt,” a few years back.

The name was chosen for a crossover sports utility vehicle. It was supposed to be an electric car based on the Chevy Volt extended-range electric vehicle (EREV).

Crossover EREV concept, the Chevy Volt MPV5, was introduced in 2010 and later, in 2011, General Motors filed to protect the name “Crossvolt”. This strongly indicated that MPV5 would go into production but it didn’t happen.

Rather the company focused on a luxury EREV, the Cadillac ELR. This vehicle has the same technology as the Chevy Volt. As there were no developments in the Chevy Crossvolt concept, it was assumed that the project had been terminated.

But recent development like applications for the renewal of the original trademark in 2011 for the protection of the “Crossvolt” name suggests that the project /4/have been revived. We can strongly assume that Chevy Volt-based crossover can be a reality and we are close to seeing the Chevy Volt-based crossover on the road soon.

All these recent developments have raised suspense levels. People are expecting that on the auspicious occasion of NAIAS 2015 in Detroit, there can be many surprises behind the curtain regarding Chevy Volt Crossover.

At present, General Motors is testing Chevy Volt 2.0, which can deliver even more pure electric miles. It is expected that Chevy Volt 2.0 could produce 60 more electric miles or even more than this and the cost could be less than $10,000 to the current Chevy Volt.

Almost the same thing is extant in EREV powertrain technology and efficiency Chevy Volt 2.0 is expected to make its world debut at NAIAS 2015 in Detroit alongside a grand fleet of Chevy Volt 2.0 cars.

Although NAIAS 2015 or Detroit Auto Show is the perfect place and time to make any announcement about Crossover yet General Motors has not said anything about introducing a crossover alongside the sedan.

People are very much interested to hear anything about it at NAIAS 2015 in Detroit because Crossovers are one of the best-selling segments in the market.

No details about the new Volt have been provided for NAIAS 2015 or Detroit Auto Show but according to Chevrolet executives it will be more efficient with longer range than the current car.

This has been appreciated by its owners, but it is not up to its original sales expectations because of its small-sized four-passenger accommodations. Further the popular crossover-style model can increase its appeal and can compete better against the Ford C-Max Energi, Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive and Kia Soul EV in the green car segment.
