Two entries from British Columbia, Canada, were named as finalists of the Doritos Crash the Super Bowl Super Bowl Ad contest on Jan. 5. The winning entry will receive $1 million and a one-year contract from Universal Studios in Hollywood, Ca. The top two entries will be aired during Super Bowl XLIX on Feb. 2.
There’s a chance Canada could represent the next winner of the Doritos Crash the Super Bowl ad contest.
According to CTV, the two men are Drew Ferguson of Vancouver and Graham Talbot of Maple Ridge. They are two of the 10 finalists who were whittled from an original field of 5,000. Finalists are guaranteed $25,000 each.
The winner will receive $1 million and a one-year contract from Universal Studios in Hollywood, Ca.The runner-up gets $50,000. The top two videos will be aired during Super Bowl XLIX in Glendale, Az. on Feb. 1, per CTV.
Ferguson told CTV the feeling is surreal. He said,”I’m still kind of in awe, I really am. Ever since I was young I wanted to be in the film business, so this is such a great opportunity to get my name out there and it’s great exposure and I just couldn’t be happier.”
Talbot told CTV his mind might not be on the game being played on Feb. 1, as he /4/be too nervous about his ad’s fate:
“I’m kind of stressing about not actually getting to enjoy the Super Bowl because I’m so nervous about if my commercial’s gonna screen.
“I don’t want to jump the gun, but at night sometimes when I’m lying in bed it’s like, what if I actually did win?”
Talbot was confident he would win it all, per CTV. He quipped,”Ideally, it would be me first, him second. That’s really what I want to happen.”
The Doritos Crash the Super Bowl contest is in its ninth year. CTV notes this is just the second time Doritos is accepting entires outside the U.S. Two Canadians, one Australian and one Englishman cracked this year’s top 10.
The finalists were all invited to watch Super Bowl XLIX from a private suite. It will be only then when they find out who the winner is — the top ad will be aired during commercial breaks.
In other news, Good Morning America’s Cameron Brock reported on Jan. 2 that Carnival Cruise Lines is resorting to online voting to allow fans to decide which of its ads will come out on top for Super Bowl XLIX. He also adds Skittles will air a Super Bowl ad for the very first time.
Super Bowl mainstays Coca-Cola, McDonald’s and Pepsi will return this year. Snickers will return after a four-year absence. However, Brock says it will be without actress Betty White, who has long been associated with the brand when she appeared in its “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry” ad in 2010.
GoDaddy.com, now on its 12th year on the Super Bowl stage, is tapping the services of race car driver Danica Patrick and a puppy for its ad, per Good Morning America.
Among the brands that passed up Super Bowl ad slots this year include M&M’s, H&M, and Volkswagen. To whet the appetite of movie-going Super Bowl fans, a 30-second TV spot for June’s “Jurassic World” will be aired during the big game, per Brock.
The Good Morning America update also mentions a 30-second commercial which will be aired during Super Bowl XLIX will cost a record $4.5 million, a 12 percent markup from a year ago.
