CES 2015: Dish To Launch Standalone Sling TV Streaming Service For $20/Month

Dish says the service will sell for $20/month with no contract commitment

It had been a long time since we had been speculating what was going on behind those curtains but Dish has finally decided to end that period and has announced more details on its much-awaited standalone live-TV streaming service which is going to be called Sling TV. It is going to be available commercially from the end of this month. According to Dish, their service is going to cost $20 per month and since it requires no contract commitment, it means you can cancel your membership whenever you like.

Sling TV is going to offer everything amazing including ESPN (and ESPN2), CNN, TBS, HGTV, Adult Swim, ABC Family, Cartoon Network, TNT, Food Network, and Disney Channel. You can also subscribe for some additional packages which will cost $5 extra. For instance, the “Kids Extra” package will give you Disney Junior, Disney XD, Boomerang, Baby TV, Duck TV. Similarly, the “News & Info Extra” package gives you HLN, Cooking Channel, DIY, and Bloomberg. For all the sports lovers, there is the “Sports Extra” package but details on this one haven’t been disclosed.

However, one major thing is missing on the Sling TV which is live broadcast TV from the major networks. This means you can’t enjoy ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, or the CW as part of the service. For these stations as well as the local news, you will have to antenna-up and this explains why we are only paying $20 a month for the subscription since some major channels are missing on the deal.

However, to cover this up, Sling TV is offering basic DVR functionality like pausing and rewinding in addition to a three-day lookback feature that means you can just go back to that show you missed two days ago.
