The social network has released a lighter version of its Android app which will go easy on processing power as well as data
As it turns out, Facebook isn’t the most mobile friendly app out there and whether it’s the iOS or the Android platform, Facebook appears to be eating up quite some processing power as well as data. For most of us, the problem might seem like a total non-issue and we are perhaps used to it by now but the real problem is in the emerging markets where it is a newer trend for people to start going online on their mobile devices. Most of the Facebook users have lower end smartphones which don’t have the specs to match the requirements for such heavier apps like the Facebook.
We might have come to the idea that this problem is of the manufacturers to take care of but in reality Facebook has taken up to itself to provide its users with a better experience, which is most suited to their devices. After all, these are Facebook customers. A new lighter version of Facebook’s Android app has been released. Known as the Facebook Lite, this new version is going to take care of all these problems which the low-spec Android devices can’t seem to handle.
The concept of Facebook Lite is particularly for the emerging markets for reasons explained above. Google Play in other mature markets will not even offer this version for download. however, this does feel like a drag to many because despite having powerful smartphones, some users still might want to have a try at something lighter.
If you happen to be in one of these emerging markets, you can download the app from here.
