NBC charged a record $4.5million for a 30 second Super Bowl spot this year. CBS says the price will go beyond $5 million in the big anniversary Super Bowl next year.
CBS is already setting the stage for Super Bowl 50 advertising sales. Advertisers in the big anniversary Super Bowl 50 in California will have to pay more than $5 million for a 30 second slot.
CBS Chairman Les Moonves said on the Q4 earnings call: “Five to six million dollars for a 30-second spot sounds pretty good to me.” According to Adage he later lowered that statement a bit to “north of $5 million.”
The $4.5 million NBC has charged this year was already record-breaking. Seth Winter, EVP of sales and marketing for NBC Sports Group has said earlier this year that he thinks the value of a Super Bowl ad to advertisers is closer to $10 million. If CBS is indeed charging more than $5 million than that mark is half-way reached already.
In the last Super Bowl many newcomers have advertised. A rise in cost will make it harder for smaller companies to take the plunge. It can pay off big, but the Super Bowl investment can also turn into dust pretty quickly as we have seen this year with the Go Daddy Super Bowl ad. It is unquestionable that Anheuser-Busch got the return on investment and then some with their Super Bowl 2015 ad staring a puppy and the Clydesdales.
Super Bowl 50 is predicted to be biggest in history. Super Bowl 49 set a new viewership record with 114.5 million. The number even surged to 120 million in the dramatic 4th quarter.
CBS will broadcast the Super Bowl 50 on February 7, 2016. Instead of Super Bowl L, the 50th Superbowl will be officially named Super Bowl 50.
Super Bowl 2016 will be huge. The honors to host the 50th Super Bowl has the San Francisco Bay Area. Super Bowl 50 will be played at the Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, CA.
Newcastle Brown Ale has already released a teaser for their Super Bowl 50 commercial, which will be no actual Super Bowl ad, but again a spoof like in the past two years.
