Jurassic World’s Indominus Rex dominates New York Toy Fair with Hasbro and Lego Premiere

“Jurassic World”, the highly anticipated summer release, hit the New York Toy Fair hard with Hasbro’s battery-powered Indominus Rex and Lego’s figure sets. Set to release on June 12, Jurassic World’s already tracking prey before the gates even open.

Indominus Rex from “Jurassic World” has everyone’s attention at the Toy Fair in New York (February 14-17, 2015). Entertainment Weekly and IGN unveiled the new terrifying dinosaur to the world just before fair began. And if you thought the T.rex was scary in “Jurassic Park”, you haven’t seen anything yet.

Running up to 30 miles per hour in a closed setting and a roar with the same decibels as a 747 plane taking off, this genetically modified rex didn’t evolve into birds, or anything closely related. This beast is all human inference. As a hybrid of dinosaurs including Abelisaurus, Carnotaurus, Majungasaurus, Rugops, and Giganotosaurus, this is not the dinosaur to upset. Just ask the visitors enjoying a nice holiday break at Jurassic World.

So the movie merchandise needs to rock as much as the big bad dinosaur on screen. EW reports Hasbro’s $35 toy will be battery operated with the ability to roar, chomp, and change scale-tone on the back. Looks like no one learned the dangers of Richard Hammond (Richard Attenborough) and the need splicing genes into a dinosaur salad.

“Life finds a way.” Masrani Global Corporation better watch out. Thankfully, those playing with the toys /4/be safe.

It’s clear that the creators of the “Jurassic World” movie knew the movie’s audience, given the marketing and inclusion of fan favorites. As a “fierce king” or “untamable king,” the latest hybrid creation is on par with the original movie—22 years later. Unofficial pictures leaked before the event, like the two publications, but this is the first time anyone’s seen the craftsmanship up close.

And Hasbro’s offering up some morsels for fans on social media.

With protruding horns, scales, and textured hide, the toy’s body looks sturdy for kids and adults alike. Pointed teeth, open mouth, and curling clawed hands make the bluish-toned Rex look unstoppable. A JW branding on the leg tells everyone just where the fearsome creature comes from and where to return if surviving the encounter.  At 40 feet tall in the park, the dinosaur will be larger than the rest of the toys and stand on hind legs like T.Rex. Looks as if the tail is similarly constructed.

The toy line will also include the iconic T.Rex and what /4/be one of Owen Grady’s pet Velociraptors. Perhaps Grady (Chris Pratt) should have figured out that “clever girl” is pretty much a death warrant in a revived dinosaur’s mind. Maybe being an animal handler and behavioral researcher has benefits that didn’t quite work for Robert Muldoon (Bob Peck).

Hasbro worked serious magic in making the dinosaur look terrifying in a fair filled with collectables, toys, and presentations about the movie.

But watch out: Lego’s looking to make some noise at the fair, too. “Jurassic World” is one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year and is expected to make quite a splash this summer.

On the Valentine’s Day, Fansite JurassicWorld.org announced the Lego sets would be available in May.

First up is the Dilophosaurus Ambush, where the dinosaur runs after a kid in a gyrosphere, a device meant to protect people when roaming among the dinosaurs in natural habits. Imagine a really big hamster wheel. Apparently, the set will also include Gray (Ty Simpkins) and an ACU troop mini-figure. And the Jeep in the set looks similar to ones found in the failed Jurassic Park.

Another set in involves the Raptor Rampage, which includes humans characters Owen, Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard), and another ACU troop. Raptors Blue and Delta will be useful as Owen rides on his motorbike and keeping the humans safe in the Mobile Vet Unit.

Of course nothing is safe in the sky, right? In the Pteranodon Capture set, a helicopter holding Simon Masrani (Irrfan Khan) and an ever present ACU trooper is attacked by a Pteranodon. Any scene from horror and action films pretty much lets the audience know this won’t end well.

But the two sets everyone will want are the larger T-Rex Tracker and the Indominus Rex Breakout. In the Tracker set, Vic Hoskins (Vincent D’Onofrio), a vet, and ACU trooper are after the T.Rex, which will be transported and/or captured in a vehicle. A minibike is included. Good idea for the head of security at InGen to try and capture a genetically modified runaway. Because as everyone knows, nothing can go wrong when InGen’s involved.

The largest of all sets, Breakout has Dr. Wu (BD Wong), Zach (Nick Robinson), vet and ACU trooper the ACU troopers should just wear a red shirt at this rate. But the biggest things are the I.Rex to tower over the dead people walking, helicopter, huge paddock, gyrosphere, and little accessories to make the capture seem possible. And since this is “Jurassic World”, created by the people who learned nothing from Hammond’s mistakes, it will not end well.

And now thanks to “Jurassic World”, Pratt’s mini-figures include Emmet Brickowski (“The Lego Movie”), Peter “Star-Lord” Quill (“Guardians of the Galaxy”), and Owen Grady. The “Parks and Recreation” actor is the only person to get three figures at once, and out at the same time.

And any news on the movie products would be remiss in not mentioning the “Lego Jurassic World” game set to arrive around the film’s release. In the trailer, the T.Rex is seen stomping on the glass warning of impending approach. Until the dinosaur loses the bottom of jaw in mid-roar.  While the game wasn’t released at the toy fair, it’s easy to see how the characters /4/look in the game and in physical form.

According to Sony Playstation, the game will allow players to start in the “Jurassic Park” movie and end up in “Jurassic World.” Players will able to “choose from over 20 dinosaurs, including the friendly Triceratops, deadly Raptor, vicious Compy and even the mighty Tyrannosaurus Rex” and be able to gather “amber and experiment with DNA to create completely original dinosaurs, like the Dilophosaurus Rex.”

Clearly, no one ever listens to Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill) or Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern). Dr. Ian Malcom (Jeff Goldbloom) might as well kept the ink and paper costs down with his book. Users will also be able to create and populate Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna. Dinosaurs get hungry after all. Players also have the option of family and friends dropping into the game.

Using the tie-in is a smart strategy for Universal Studios since Lego games do extremely well on multiple platforms. “Lego Jurassic World” will available on the Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. The action adventure game is published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and developed by TT Games.

“Jurassic World” is set to release on June 12. Stars include series newcomers Pratt, Howard, and Khan. Fans will be thrilled to see Wong back as Dr. Henry Wu, chief geneticist and head of Hammond’s former team. Always good to give a job back to the guy who helped to create an island full of dinosaurs determined to eat any castaways or accidental tourists.
