Sling TV announced today yet another offering. The Epix channels and VOD offering are coming to the Sling TV streaming service.
Last week Dish’s Sling TV announced to offer AMC in addition to the current live TV channel offering. Sling TV is available for $20 month to everyone since about a week. Today Sling TV announced a deal with Epix. Under the agreement Sling TV users will get access to the EPIX, EPIX2, EPIX3 and EPIX Drive-In channels plus over 2,000 titles in video on demand.
EPIX was launched in 2009 and made a name for itself by offering a broad range of platform support. EPIX was the first premium network to launch on Chromecast, XBox 360, PlayStation, iOS, Android tablets, Windows 8.1 and Roku players.
EPIX was founded by media powerhouses Viacom Inc., Paramount Pictures unit, Lionsgate and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc.
“Our customers crave the newest movies like The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Transformers: Age of Extinction, but they also have a growing appetite for the classics and EPIX delivers both,” said Roger Lynch, CEO of Sling TV. “Sling TV will feature EPIX’s linear channels and movies on-demand in an add-on package that is accessible and affordable.”
Currently Sling TV offers three add-on packages priced $5 each per month. If the Epix bundle is priced the same remains to be seen. Sling TV will announce the launch date, package and pricing of EPIX in the coming weeks.
Sling TV current $20 core package features ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, TBS, Food Network, HGTV, Travel Channel, Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, ABC Family, Disney Channel, CNN, El Rey and Galavision. This package additionally features access to WatchESPN and an array of Video-On-Demand entertainment.
The Sling TV add-on packages include “Sports Extra,” “Kids Extra” and “News & Info Extra” each priced at $5 per month.
Sling TV is a subsidiary of DISH networks. The challenge for Sling TV will be to grow their offering, but not cannibalize Dish Network customers.
