With the SteamVR Valve hops onto the VR bandwagon

The company’s new VR product is ready for a demo next week at the annual Game Developers Conference in San Francisco

Valve is stepping up its virtual reality game a notch further. The Valve Software is widely recognized for its online game marketplace Steam and now it’s going from selling its virtual worlds to helping the game makers in their creation.

During its announcement on Monday the Seattle company announced the update for its store’s “Steam Universe” portal which now has a new page hinting towards the company’s first ever VR product. The SteamVR is going to be presented in a demo next week at the annual Game Developers Conference which will be held in San Francisco.

The company is referring to its Steam VR as the “previously unannounced hardware system and its demo will be made alongside the “the refined Steam Controller” and “new living room devices” as the devices said. So far we don’t think there are any compatible games since there was no mention of them during the short announcement and Valve Software is currently looking for VR content creators.

The Steam Universe portal now has a contact form to schedule GDC demos along with Valve to test out the SteamVR Dev Kit. Surprisingly there was no mention of the Steam Machines which had been delayed last year for a /4/2015 launch but they haven’t been talked of again. However, the company’s page says that “the Steam Universe is expanding… to a powerful new family of entertainment devices.” This leaves us to wonder if we are going to see some other form factors too or not. It also appears to be confusing why we haven’t heard anything about the Steam Controller since the last time it was mentioned which was in July last year.

Despite the company’ silence on some major Steam developments, one thing is for sure that the company has stepped onto the important platform of VR which is going to mark a significant change in 2015 as the high profile systems become available to the public at large.
