A new analyst report says that Apple will only release a new iPad Air this year and not other new models or upgrades.
Apple has been rumored recently to work on a big 12.9-inch iPad Pro. Analyst Ming-Chi says in his latest research note that Apple is indeed working on an iPad Pro, but it will not be released this year. He also says that Apple will only upgrade the iPad Air and not the iPad mini Retina.

The 2014 iPad Air would get the new A8 CPU and the Touch ID sensor. For some reason Ming-Chi thinks that Apple will not do the same upgrades to the iPad mini Retina. He argues that Apple has to shift resources to develop the 12.9-inch tablet. I think he is wrong here. I cannot imagine that Apple is not having enough resources to upgrade the iPad mini with a new CPU and a sensor button. Especially if they do the same upgrade on the iPad Air.
I believe that we will see a new iPad mini Retina (it needs a shorter name) and a new iPad Air this year.
