HBO Now Streaming Service Launches with Apple TV Support

HBO Now Streaming Service launches with Apple TV Support

A new report says that HBO’s streaming service is called HBO Now.

HBO announced last year to offer a streaming service. HBO would immediately become a Netflix competitor as they are a gate keeper for new released movies. Today the International Business Times reports that the HBO streaming service is called HBO Now.

In addition to that, the report says that HBO is in negotiations to launch on the Apple TV. For Apple that would be actually good, as they do not have that early access to new Hollywood movie releases as HBO has.

The HBO Now streaming service is supposed to launch in April with the premiere of the 5th season of Game of Thrones, the most pirated show. The HBO Now subscription is supposed to be $15 per month, which is in line with the fee cable provider charge.

The Apple TV will not be the only platform HBO Now will be available on. Consumers will also be able to watch HBO Now on Roku, Xbox, PlayStation, Amazon and others.

According to the report, Apple is the most aggressive in getting HBO Now. The HBO service at $15 would be about double what Netflix is costing subscribers. The difference is that HBO has first dibs on offering new movies. The $15 fee is for movie enthusiasts a small price to pay in comparison to movie theater tickets.

What is not clear yet if HBO Now is going to be available internationally. Most of the pirating of Game of Thrones goes on abroad. HBO Now has a huge international potentional, but it could be they do not have the international first rights for movies.
