Nerdist Video
- Game of Thrones fuses with Taylor Swift in Blank Page Parody
Something new is cooking in the air. Game of Thrones has fused with Taylor Swift in the form of a Blank Page parody video.
How about a new twist on Taylor Swift’s Blank Space? Well, the wait is over. The novel combination has everybody enthused. And this time around it is not about romantic love floundering on the shores of chaos. It is instead all about George R.R.
Martin’s indomitable strength and sadism. Termed Blank Page, the new music video is about how George manages to wipe out anyone who comes in his path. And he thus converts a blank page into a death scene worth its weight in violence and destruction.
The video spoof shows that Martin pays a visit to Daenerys and tells her that despite her popularity she can drop dead anytime. Or she could end up mutilated thanks to enemies. The scenario is one of danger at every step.
And this is seriously real. It is not just empty threats that are being hurled in her direction. The song is cruel indeed yet it retains its comic aspects. Its lyrics were written by Freddy Scott. And the directors of the video were Andrew and Ben.
The people in Game of Thrones and Taylor Swift’s boyfriend in Blank Space are in one and the same situation in case of Blank Page. Death stalks them all. The parody is to be taken lightly despite the depressing topic of death waiting at every corner.
In Blank Page, George walks around the castle and tries to murder Targaryen in the end with a deadly weapon of his choice. The lyrics are indeed a ditto copy of the original words that go along to the funky music.
But they have been deconstructed and lend a humorous parodying effect to the song. There have been many previous attempts at parodies. Weird Al Yankovic with his parodies of Madonna’s Like a Virgin (Like a Surgeon) and Michael Jackson’s Beat It (Eat It) has been the most prominent example so far.
He has in fact released an album which parodies many other songs such as Miley Cyrus’. With this tragicomic spoof of Taylor Swift’s song, the funny bone /4/have been tickled with a dose of cruelty or manslaughter (man’s laughter) involved in the subtext. But it is all done in good humor and with the hope that it will all be taken with a grain of salt.
