Former Tennessee Titans and New York Jets running back Chris Johnson was shot during a drive-by shooting in Florida on Sunday.

According to The Orlando Sentinel’s Steven Lemongello, Johnson sustained a gunshot wound in the shoulder. One man was killed while another one was injured during the shooting, he added.

Lemongello obtained a statement from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office which says the shooting happened at 4:09 a.m. ET at the intersection of Southland Boulevard and Orange Blossom Trail, which is a few blocks north of the Florida Mall.

When police arrived on the scene, they discovered a Jeep with the driver dead inside the vehicle. Two other men were also shot and were slumped on the sidewalk, per Lemongello.

Authorities identified the other surviving victim as Reggie Johnson, who, at 29, is the same age as the former Titans and Jets running back. Both men said an unknown vehicle pulled up right next to theirs at a stoplight and then opened fire, per The Orlando Sentinel.

On the other hand, the dead victim was identified as 28-year-old Dreekius Oricko Johnson. The report which Lemongello obtained could not confirm the relationship of the victims.

ESPN New York Jets reporter Rich Cimini confirms Chris Johnson is in stable condition. As for Reggie Johnson, Cimini says he was shot in the shoulder, hand and leg but fortunately is also in stable condition.

The Tennessean’s Jim Wyatt reported on Sunday that Chris Johnson had been training in the Los Angeles area prior to the shooting. He spent this weekend in Orlando and was planning to return to Los Angeles on Sunday evening.

No charges have been filed yet, per The New York Times’ Ben Shpigel.

Two months ago, police arrested Chris Johnson, an Orlando native. Officers discovered two semiautomatic handguns — a Glock 9 mm and an FN 5.7 mm — inside his car. The Orlando Sentinel update says authorities charged Johnson with a misdemeanor and open carrying of firearms.

Cimini stresses police stopped Johnson after he went past a stop sign. He was eventually released on a $250 bond.

Chris Johnson is set to become a free agent on March 10, the first day of the NFL’s new calendar year. He will become one because the Jets declined to exercise a team option which would have kept him in New York in 2015. Johnson consequently ripped team management during a radio interview, insisting his higher-ups lied to him about his role in the offense, per Cimini.

Johnson spent the first six years of his NFL career in Tennessee. The Titans released him in April 2014. The Jets then scooped him up and offered him a two-year, $8 million deal. Cimini says he never became the full-time starter at running back as he split carries with Chris Ivory.

Johnson was nowhere near the player he was when he was still with the Titans. In his only year with the Jets, he recorded just 155 carries, 663 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown, per ESPN.

Johnson, the fifth-leading active rusher in the league, has amassed 8,628 rushing yards and 51 touchdowns on 1,897 carries through March 8, per ESPN stats.
