American Pop star buys controversial domain names such as .porn, .adult and .sucks in order to protect her image on the internet. She claims that she bought them first so internet trolls wouldn’t get their hands on it and stain her personality.
June 1st onwards, you can buy internet domain names such as .porn, .sucks, .adult, etc. ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers brought about an increase in the number of generic top-level domains (gTLDs).
In the year 2011 around 22 such domain names existed like .com and .org but today over 547 domain names are available to the mass market. New domain names or gTLDs are released every month owing to the demands of the internet users and an uncontrollable increase in the number of users.
Although till the time these domain names remained un-controversial there wasn’t that much of a problem for anyone, but with the inception of domains such as .porn and .adult a need to protect brand names and personalities has come up.
Taylor Swift, an American country turned pop star is such a business prodigy, she has already acquired patents to the lyrics of some of her famous songs, and she tries to avoid any sort of controversy by either not being in the screen or putting things up before anyone else does so trying to stain her public image.
In the light of the above mentioned facts about her, it was uncanny to think that controversial domains such as these would appear and she wouldn’t do anything about it. Of course Taylor bought them before anyone else could. Yes, Taylor swift now owns Taylorswift.porn and Taylorswift.adult gTLDs.
Another business who owns such names, as reported by Stuart Lawley, is Microsoft. Stuart is the CEO at ICM Registry and he told us that Microsoft has registered the names Office.porn and Office.adult.
Businesses and artists are buying these names because they don’t want their brand name or image being portrayed in negative terms anywhere in the world. Taylor Swift’s move on this issue clears her right now and her name won’t be smeared in the R-rated categories anytime soon.
These domains are a hot prospect for people who want to make money with porn, associating a well-known pop star’s name with domains such as .porn creates a hype, and that hype is what these people in the porn industry cash in on. It becomes no hidden secret that these people most certainly don’t value other people’s image in society.
The Senior Vice-President at Safenames told CNN that creating such domain names can be viewed positively as they provide more control for the users on the internet. Domains such as .healthcare, .travel and .tech ensure that the users come up with the right kind of information they are searching for.
The .com domains /4/or /4/not offer as much guidance as a proper word for the query. The .porn .sucks and .adult domains will obviously make it easier for parents to control the content their children view on the internet as well.
The SVP at Safenames also stated that the people with bad intentions are going to go ahead and do what they want to do and there is nothing that can prevent them.
