The first Lego Movie was a huge success and there will be sequels and spin-offs to continue the “brick” franchise. Now, a new addition to the already planned three Lego movies has been announced.
The first Lego Movie collected a whopping $469 million at the box office worldwide. This is not only great for the Lego company, but also for its movie studio partner, Warner Bros. The Lego franchise continues in 2016 with Ninjago. My 6-year-old can’t wait for that one. Ninjago is already an established TV Show. In 2017, the Lego Batman movie will come out and in 2018, The Lego Movie 2 will be in theaters.
THR reports that there will be a fourth Lego movie spin-off. The Billion Brick Race will be written by actor Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother) and Drew Pearce, who wrote Iron Man 3.
The story of The Billion Brick Race is kept secret so far. There is also no release date yet for Billion Brick Race. Jason Segel has ventured into writing before. His work includes Forgetting Sarah Marschall and Sex Tape. Segel also was a writer on the Muppets movie. Writer Drew Pearce wrote for the new Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and is working now on the Ghostbusters reboot.
Lego is more popular than ever. The company has evolved from the brick toy company to a media juggernaut. Every Lego product line comes with gaming apps and TV shows. 2014 was a year of growth again for the LEGO Group.
