3.67 Million Years Old Little Foot is Oldest Human Ancestor

One of the latest instruments of historical measurement has gauged Little Foot, a hominid, and announced the age in eons to be 3.67 million years old.

The skeleton of Little Foot is the farthest back you can go in case of hominids. A charmingly unique find, this skeleton is preserved intact and it happens to be 3.67 million years old. Belonging to an Australopithecus, it was discovered a couple of years ago in South Africa.

Probably an elder relative of Lucy, according to Nature, it existed on earth somewhere between 2 to 4 million years ago. Lucy was discovered in Ethiopia by Louis Leaky about a generation or two ago. The stone implements found accompanying the skeleton were also very old in their nature.

The current species discovered is quite a different catch from the previous ones. The missing links between the current fossil record and the hominids that walked the earth in actuality means that the record is still incomplete.

As for the method that was employed to date the hominid, it employs radioisotopes. It is a very advanced and state-of-the-art technique that is accurate down to the last millionth of a second. 

The complex procedures that got engaged in from measurements to intense and intricate handlings of samples and data led to the hominid being labelled as the oldest form of early man out there.

In the olden days there were carbon dating methods of finding out how old some substance or fossil was. But since then the fields of spectroscopy and sample analysis not to mention half-life studies of unstable chemicals have led to a great many advancements in accurately measuring fossils and semi-fossilized objects.

The field of archaeology and paleontology have increased in their repertoires by leaps and bounds. Evolution was the big idea that entered Darwin’s mind in a similar way to the proverbial apple falling on Newton’s head thereby making him ponder over gravity.

And evolution shows that there were several hominids and semi-humans that roamed the savannahs of Africa before mankind or Homo Sapiens came along and went ahead to conquer the globe. It was a struggle alright as man fought tooth and nail with the environment and Nature which was standing in his way.
