Comcast Gigabit Pro will be available next month to more than 1.5 million customers in Atlanta. The service will bring the fastest speeds to the most people in America.
These lucky people in Atlanta. Comcast announced today to offer a 2 Gigabit-per-second (Gbps) internet service in Atlanta starting next month. This is the fastest internet service available anywhere in the US. It will be available to 1.5 million customers in Atlanta metro area. This is also the highest availability of any service. Comcast Gigabit Pro is a symmetrical, 2Gbps service that will be delivered via a fiber-to-the-home solution.
“Our approach is to offer the most comprehensive rollout of multi-gigabit service to the most homes as quickly as possible, not just to certain neighborhoods,” said Doug Guthrie, SVP of Comcast Cable’s South Region. “We already provide the fastest speeds to the most homes and businesses in Atlanta, and access to Gigabit Pro will give our customers all the broadband capacity they need to stay ahead of future technologies and innovations.”
Gigabit Pro will be available to any home within close proximity of Comcast’s fiber network and will require an installation of professional-grade equipment. Comcast has not yet revealed the pricing for the Gigabit Pro service.
Comcast has been doubling the capacity of its network at least every 18 months and, with the introduction of Gigabit Pro, the company has now increased speeds for its subscribers 14 times in the past 13 years.

Comcast is also testing DOCSIS 3.1, a scalable, national, next generation 1 Gbps technology solution. Comcast hopes to begin rolling out DOCSIS 3.1 in early 2016, and when fully deployed, it will mean almost every customer in Comcast markets will be able to receive gigabit speeds over our existing networks (a combination of both fiber and coax).
