Benchmark results put 12-inch MacBook at par with 2011 MacBook Air

It is slightly disappointing to see that the latest Macbook has performance results similar to those of the previous generation

The 12-inch Retina MacBook is still a little far away from us in terms of availability but thanks to the unboxing we saw earlier on which detailed the hands on experience of the upcoming Apple Mac. Like always, seeing the outer side of things isn’t enough and it doesn’t satisfy our buying decisions at all. In this regard, thanks to the Geekbench results which also reveal the performance side of things and now we know what kind of performance to expect from the 12-inch Retina MacBook.

The entry-level 12-inch Retina MacBook passed through the Geekbench process which aims to test the performance. The Macbook is powered by an Intel Core M-5Y31 processor clocked at 1.1GHz with Turbo Boost to 2.4GHz.

The Retina MacBook was put through the tests twice and it earned single-core scores of 1924 and 2044 and multi-core scores of 4038 and 4475. If we can recall, these scores fall in line with the scores of the 2011 MacBook Air which ran on 1.8GHz Intel Core i7 processor. In contrast to this, the baseline 2015 MacBook Air which runs the 1.6GHz Core i5 processor has received single-core and multi-core scores of 2881 and 5757 respectively.

It is a bit disturbing to see why the latest Macbooks would have scores which come at par with the previous generations of the Macs. We expect the latest Macbook to at least offer more edge on the graphics performance since the 12-inch Retina model comes with Intel HD 5300 graphics and a faster PCIe-based flash storage.

It has only been a month since this redesigned 12-inch Retina MacBook was officially unveiled by Apple and it will go on sale online as well as in stores starting from April 10th. The baseline model which comes with 1.1GHz processor and 256GB of storage is going to cost $1299 and for $1599 you will get a slightly faster 1.2GHz model with 512GB of storage.
