Disney is planning on making yet another one of its famous movies into a live action movie. This time, it is Winnie the Pooh.
Recently, Disney announced via Deadline that the company will be creating a live action version of Mulan after the success of the live action movie Cinderella and the continued success of the musicals Aladdin and The Lion King on Broadway. Today, the company announced that their next live action venture would be the classic children’s tale Winnie the Pooh.
Many thought that the idea was a day after April Fool’s joke, but it seems that Disney is serious about the film. They have already hired Alex Ross Perry, who most recently worked on the hit indie film Listen Up Phillip, to help develop the film from page and animated movie to live action. While Mulan has already sparked multiple articles about who should be what role, it is unclear whether actors will play these characters at all. It is up for debate as to whether Pooh, Rabbit, Tigger, Piglet, and Eeyore will be CG characters like those in Enchanted or whether the studio will go with the approach of having a man in a green suit play the characters and then they transpose the character is post production, like they do in The Lord of the Rings with Gollum.
The story, though still in its first stages, is said to be about Christopher Robin, Winnie the Pooh’s human friend, and his return to the 100 Acre Woods as an adult.
Winnie the Pooh has proven to be one of the most successful franchises for Disney, starting in 1977 with The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh through 2003’s The Piglet Movie.
