New smartphone sales report reveals strong success of the Apple iPhone in China.
China is evolving into Apple’s most important market. Apple wows Chinese customers with huge new Apple Stores. The investments paid already off. Apple has in the three months ending in February 2015 reached an all-time high with 27.6% of the smartphone market in China according to the Kantar Worldpanel ComTech report.
“There has been a strong appetite for Apple’s products in urban China seen since the launch of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus and this has continued into Chinese New Year. China Mobile’s subscribers accounted for 59% of the 27.6% volume share recorded by iOS in the latest period”, reported Carolina Milanesi, chief of research at Kantar Worldpanel ComTech. “Across key global markets Apple’s momentum generally continued from last month, with market share gains in all markets except the US and Japan.”
The iPhone 6 was the best-selling phone in China in that period of time with 10.2% market share followed by Xiaomi RedMI Note and the iPhone 6 Plus.
Android is still the dominating mobile OS in China but lost compared to the same period last year almost 10% market share. This the biggest drop of Android compared to other major mobile markets. In Great Britain Apple had a similar growth (8.6%), but Android only list 5%. The rest comes from Windows and other mobile platforms.
The problem Apple has now are the new released flagship smartphones from Android vendors including Samsung and HTC. Apple’s next iPhones will not go on sale until September giving the competition room to push back the iPhone again in the market over the Spring and Summer time frame.
