Apple’s iOS 8.3 release brings Wi-Fi calling

The updated iOS enables Wi-Fi calling on Sprint in U.S., EE in UK

iPhones and iPads are enjoying Apple’s recent iOS 8.3 rollout which has brought along some interesting new emojis but even more fascinating is the WiFi calling and wireless CarPlay support. After being available as a public beta since March, the latest iOS version was finally released on Wednesday.

Everywhere the updated emoji picker is being the highlight of the update. The update not only brings a more diverse collection of emojis for the users to choose from but also lets users modify the skins and organize the new emoji into scrollable lists and categories. Thanks to the update, the iPhones can now also support wireless CarPlay meaning that users can connect to an in-car system without a Lightning cable and will have support for EE‘s WiFi Calling service.

Following this Sprint has also announced that Wi-Fi calling will be available on iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s. “Wi-Fi Calling is like a major expansion of our network, allowing Sprint customers to get coverage anywhere they have Wi-Fi connectivity,” said David Owens, senior vice president of product development for Sprint. “Traditional wireless technology has some limitations in places like basements and high-rise office buildings. Wi-Fi expands our customer’s connectivity in a big way. The addition of Wi-Fi Calling for iPhone customers is just one more example of how Sprint is getting better every day.”
