Ex Machina: Humans are Scarier than Robots

Ex Machina director Garland thinks ‘Humans are scarier’ than robots in the film.

The latest artificial intelligence movie by Universal studios ‘Ex Machina’ is set to be released today. The film is based on the dynamics of robots and human emotions and the morality involved when both of these aspects are mixed together. 

The film is directed by Alex Garland with a Norwegian backdrop and follows the story of Domhall Gleeson who arrives on a remote compound with his boss Oscar Isaac where he discovers the presence of Ava a robot.

Isaac is a genius billionaire who has created Ava an Artificial Intelligence project and has brought Gleeson along, who has to determine whether Ava can pass the Turing test and during their interactions Ava convinces Gleeson she’s self-aware as a human. 

Ava is played by Alicia Vikander with a robotic precision and has perfectly captured the illusion of robotic intelligence. Gradually as the movie progresses Ava develops feelings for Gleeson which turns into a disturbing twist. 

In an interview with Fox411 after a special screening the producer Garland declared Ava is the protagonist of the film and it’s not a cautionary tale about having made a robot which results in disaster but reveals the innovative depth real Artificial Intelligence could achieve.

Garland shared the film is actually about the evil within humans and how a robot would react to it when they also think like a human and human are actually scarier in situations.

While writing the script Garland visited many AI experts and when he screened the film for some scientists they found it very interesting. Garland has also shed light on how big technology companies can use their technology to take advantage of other people’s privacy as seen when the boss Isaac spy’s on Gleeson and Ava. 

Although the director has not shed more light on the plot of the film it is R rated and features nudity. Watch below the 3rd official trailer of Ex Machina.
