Rita Wilson undergoes Double Mastectomy and Reconstructive Surgery after being diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Rita Wilson kept her cancer infliction under wraps as she underwent double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery saying she was lucky to be diagnosed and treated early.
Fish in the Dark actress Rita Wilson, 58, excused herself from the play on medical grounds. She didn’t reveal the nature of her health problems but just that she had health issues.
It was revealed by the actress herself that she underwent double mastectomy and reconstruction surgery after she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
She told People that her husband Tom Hanks, their children, family and friends were all there to support her as she went in to the surgery.
The actress revealed details of her diagnosis. She had n underlying condition of LCIS (lobular carcinoma in situ), which has been vigilantly monitored through yearly mammograms and breast MRIs.
Recently, after two surgical breast biopsies, PLCIS (pleomorphic carcinoma in situ) was discovered. She emphasized to get second opinion. She said she was relieved that the pathology didn’t show cancer.
She emphasized that there is no harm in getting second opinion. Her second consultation helped in diagnosing invasive lobular carcinoma. Other pathologist confirmed the diagnosis. She said she emphasized the point to help out other women in the same affliction.
Lately Angelina Jolie also underwent double mastectomy when she was told be receptive to ovarian cancer. Rita said it is better to spread awareness based on the experiences someone has had with the disease. Her replacement is yet to be announced for the play as Rita and Tom are rumored to be planning a vacation.
