Google Malaysia under malicious hacker attack

No personal data has been compromised thankfully

Life without Google has almost become impossible. How many times in a day do we pick up our phones only to put our doubts to rest with Google-ing something? Countless, right? Well, imagine that you’re no longer able to do this and the Google page has mysteriously disappeared in your country. The Malaysians know the feeling just too well as Google recently fell prey to a malicious hacker attack.

The hackers have taken down the Google page in such a way that each time you try to open Google, you are instead redirected to the hackers’ page. Representatives from the company have assured that they are aware of the situation and have been informed that many users had trouble connecting to the site. The hackers clearly didn’t want to compromise the service of Google directly and hence they only targeted MYNIC – the Malaysia-based domain name service that runs addresses that end with .com.my.

The personal data of users is as safe as it was before and thankfully the hackers didn’t plan on compromising on that either but not being able to connect to Google is a big inconvenience on its own. And since users were redirected to the page of the hackers, it seems easy to point out whose work this was. As it appears, this was the work of Bangladeshi hacker TiGER-M@TE, who has previously hacked Google Bangladesh in 2011.
