A new animated Spider-Man feature film is to hit theaters in 2018!
Sony pictures are in development to make a new animated version of the Spider-Man films. The Spider-Man franchise will be returning to its animated roots and but the film will be independent from the live action films currently released starring Andrew Garfield.
On Sunday Sony pictures announced the production of the animated Marvel’s superhero Spider-Man and revealed it will be written and produced by the directors of ‘The Lego Movie’ Phil Lord and Chris Miller.
Rumors about the project first surfaced when emails leaked from the Sony hack indicated Sony executives had been trying to recruit the directors Lord and Miller for a Spider-Man project. The project will also be co-produced by Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal.
The chairman of Sony Pictures Tom Rothman announced at Comic Con the animated version of Spider-Man will co-exist with the live action version as the story lines will be unrelated and continue in their own time. The animated version of Spider-Man will be released on the 20th of July in 2018, according to Variety.
Sony has already compiled a list of contenders to give the voice-over for Spider-Man from a bevy of young and upcoming actors. Sony is planning to audition several contenders such as Nat Wolff, Asa Butterfield, Tom Holland, Timothee Chalamet and Liam James.
A decision is expected to be reached in two or three weeks but a contract /4/take longer for casting to be finalized officially. None of the actors mentioned have officially received audition offers as of yet but multiple sources close to the project have confirmed they are strong choices.
Although details on the animated Spider-Man project has been kept under wraps sources claim the movie is to be set in high school, therefore younger actors are being considered for the role.
