Niall Leonard the husband of the Fifty Shades books trilogy author E. L. James is set to write the screenplay for the sequel ‘Fifty Shades Darker’.

E.L. James has enlisted her husband screenwriter Niall Leonard to write the script for the sequel to the popular film ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’. Leonard is married to the author E. L. James who wrote the Fifty Shades book trilogy and he will be writing the script for the second instalment of the trilogy ‘Fifty Shades Darker’.

Leonard is an author himself along with a screenwriter and has two sons with the British author E.L. James whose real name is actually Erika Leonard.

The most notable works of Leonard include writings for the British TV show Air Force One Is Down and Wire in the Blood along with others. Leonard has penned the Crusher books series and also worked on the script for the first film instalment ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ but was not credited.

According to THR, the producer Michael De Luca welcomed Leonard in the Fifty Shades project and called him an outstanding writer in his own right with multiple credits. E. L. James has maintained a strong amount of creative control over the film adaptation of her first book and gained the right when she sold her book rights to the Universal studios.

E. L. James also notably clashed with the director of the first film ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Sam Taylor-Johnson regarding many aspects including the ending. As a result the director and screenwriter Kelly Marcel left the franchise and will not be returning for the sequel.

Rumors were also swirling James herself wanted to write the screenplay but apparently her husband Niall Leonard has more experience in the industry as a screenwriter and it /4/have been a happy compromise for the author.
