Hubble Space Telescope celebrates 25th Anniversary

The Silver Anniversary, that is 25 years of space viewing and photography, via the Hubble Telescope has been enacted with joy and ecstasy by both NASA and ESA.

The Hubble Space Telescope has been in existence for a quarter of a century during which beautiful colored pictures of the far off recesses of the universe have been released for public consumption.

The most mystical and magical images of nebulae and supernovas not to mention distant stars have reached the eyes and wandering (and wondering) minds of stargazers and astronomers alike thanks to this boon and blessing.

Its Silver Anniversary got celebrated with pomp and show. A whole gamut of stars called the Westerlund 2 was brought before public view by NASA as an official image on this moment of joy and happiness. The telescope has really expanded mankind’s outlook on the universe.

The photo of the previously mentioned cluster of stars is situated at a distance of 20,000 light years from earth. And it has some of the most brilliant and fantastically colorful stars in our galaxy.

The Hubble Telescope was launched way back in 1990 via the Space Shuttle. Later on a slight imperfection was discovered in one of its mirrors which was immediately repaired by a team of technicians sent into space for that express purpose.

Since then the telescope has been sending in image after image of faraway systems of astronomical complexity thereby completing and fortifying our picture of the known universe.  

The picture of the Westerlund 2 cluster of stars is almost like a treasure trove of jewels and precious stones from an Open Sesame scene in Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. It is immensely and breathtakingly beautiful to gaze at in admiration and wonderment.

The photograph taken by the Hubble Space Telescope is indeed a national – nay a planetary – treasure. All sorts of rainbow shades of colors are depicted in the pic of the distant star-hub. It is an artist’s fantasy and a mystic’s vision mixed in one aesthetic scene meant for the wild and wise imagination.

The stars in their dust and debris are almost like beacons of hope that lend support to the view that life still exists somewhere else in the universe. We cannot be alone in this vast experiment undertaken by Nature.

The Hubble Telescope is named after a scientist of the same name. It has virtually transformed and radically changed mankind’s picture of his place in the universal dimensions that surround him. And for this both NASA and ESA deserve all the praise in the world for starting the project in the first place a generation ago.
