The roll out of the new delivery package will coincide with an app for the Apple Watch.
Soon enough, Chipotle lovers will be able to order their burritos and bowls without ever leaving the comfort of their sofa, according to The New York Times. Yesterday, the fast food company launched a campaign for 67 different markets that will offer delivery through the start up company Postmates.
There has been no word on whether or not the entire menu will be available, or if like some other fast food companies, there will be an abridged menu available.
This coming Friday, the chain also will launch a new mobile app that was designed specifically for the Apple Watch, Chief Creative and Development Officer Mark Crumpacker said during a conference call. In recent months, the company has been working to boost its e-commerce business and mobile payment options, Crumpacker said.
The company they are working with has been called the Uber of delivery services – you pay someone a delivery fee to bring you your food, much like you would pay them to drive you home. Traditionally, rates for these services vary by location and time of day. The company also says that they deliver groceries and office supplies.
“We selected Postmates as our official delivery partner in March and now they are currently delivering Chipotle orders in all of the markets where they operate,” Crumpacker said.
This services comes as a bit of a shock to die hard Chipotle fans as the company has previously shut down other attempts to start a delivery service or include Chipotle in on their delivery service. The company has said that they discovered the importance of deliveries, as they now make up about 7% of their sales. The company hopes this service will increase that number to around 10% or more.
