BET announced the revival of MTV’s Punk’d on Thursday!!
On Thursday the cable network BET announced it will be reviving the hit MTV hidden camera prank show Punk’d. BET is the sister network to MTV and it recently ordered seven new series one of them includes the Viacom Punk’d, according to THR.
The MTV prank show Punk’d was originally formed by the comedy whiz Ashton Kutcher and ran on MTV from 2003 to 2007 originally with a small revival in 2012. During its original run Punk’d was responsible for having pranked numerous Hollywood stars in funny and unexpected situations.
The show was hugely popular and became a pop culture phenomenon. Ashton Kutcher was the original host of the show when it ran from 2003 to 2007 however he only made a small appearance during the revival in 2012. Currently there are no reports on whether Kutcher will be involved in the latest revival of Punk’d.
BET explained the new version of Punk’d will be tailored according to the audience of the network and the team behind the revival has not been decided on yet. But it was announced the revival of Punk’d will have a new segment where viewers will be able to see how the pranks are conceptualized and the work which goes into the execution of the celebrity prank.
BET is the number one network for African-American viewers and has been associated with Black consumers for 35 years. BET network Chairman Debra Lee who is also the CEO of the network, stated BET continues to gives its users what they desire on television, including high quality content which elevates and reflects them.
Other new programmes to be broadcasted by BET include ‘Zoe Moon’ a sitcom about a single mom and ‘Chasing Destiny’ a reality singing competition hosted by former Destiny’s Child Kelly Rowland.
