YouTube will be making and premiering full length feature films and TV series!
YouTube is emphasizing on its Video making community quite relentlessly. YouTube announced today it will start making full length feature films from later this year. The feature films will be made in collaboration with AwesomenessTV, a company purchased by the DreamWorks Animation about two years ago.
Over the passage of the next two years YouTube and AwesomenessTV will release several full feature length films on the video sharing site. The films will be made and comprised of established YouTube star from the YouTube community and will premiere exclusively on YouTube first worldwide. After the premier the films will be available on other platforms.
Although all the details of the projects are still not clear YouTube seems to be focusing on personality based films. As several films have been promised in the next two years it seem the films will be quick productions.
The entire venture seems like a distribution play designed by YouTube as the company said they believe YouTube will become a distribution paradigm in the coming years. Although major studios /4/not buy the ploy but it /4/be effective for attracting independent content.
YouTube is also involved in the backing for original comedy series from different channels such as The Fine Brothers, Pranks vs. Prank, Joey Graceffa, and Smosh. YouTube has remained vague on the level of involvement it will have in the development of the comedy series. In a blog YouTube described the project as a partnership with the different channels.
The new projects by YouTube have come in light of increasing competition with other video sharing sites such as Tumblr and Facebook. YouTube is fighting to keep video makers on its platform with funding the new ventures. Although the steps are not major they /4/provide new and better quality on YouTube.
