Apple, IBM to get Senior Citizens in Japan on iPads

Apple, Japan Post Group and IBM are looking to bring iPads and some apps to Japan for senior citizens.

The two giants are joining hands with Japan Post Group to bring the iPads to Japan. There are some custom apps made for senior citizen in Japan. We are about to be faced with a worldwide problem very soon.

By 2050, 21% of the earth’s population will be over 65 years old. So Apple and IBM believe that Japan is the best place for both of the companies to set off the next phase of the partnership. By the year 2055 almost 40% of Japan will have senior citizens.

At the moment 25% of their population is above 65. Both Apple and IBM announced a partnership with Japan Post Group. This company is Japan’s largest health and life insurance company. This company will be providing iPads and specialized apps to Japan’s elderly.

The CEO of Japan Post Group, Taizo Nishimuro said that out of all the countries of the world, the problem of aging generations is most active in Japan. He said that the country needs real solutions.

“We are joining with two of the world’s most respected leaders in technology to bring our elderly generation into the connected world, expand our businesses by deepening relationships, and discover new ways to strengthen the fabric of our society and economy,” said Taizo.

The CEO of the company is himself 80 years old. The CEO of Japan Post was joined on stage with Apple CEO Tim Cook and IBM CEO Ginni Rometty. Tim Cook said that his company will dramatically improve the lives of millions of people.

He said sooner or later every country of the world will face this problem. He said that his company wants to make a service that will not only make them proud but will also leave a dent in the universe.

“This initiative has potential for global impact, as many countries face the challenge of supporting an aging population, and we are honored to be involved in supporting Japan’s senior citizens and helping enrich their lives,” said Tim Cook. “iPad is incredibly intuitive, easy to use and has accessibility features built in, making it a perfect device for any generation to be connected and engaged.”

On the other hand the IBM CEO, Ginni Rometty, said that the idea is to bring iPad and IBM developed apps, analytics and cloud services to connect millions of seniors with services. These iPads will also include apps made especially for the elderly.

“What we’re starting today draws on IBM’s long heritage of innovation at the intersection of technology, business and society,” said Ginni Rometty, President, Chairman and CEO of IBM. “The potential we see here—as broad as national economics and as specific as the quality of life of individuals and their families—is one example of the potential of mobile-led transformation anywhere in the world where issues of an aging population exist.”

Taizo said that this system will have access to the healthcare data for thousands using this great new service. Tim Cook and Rometty are looking to address the elderly issues at a global level.
