Apple’s New Program Allows Third Party Apple Watch bands to be More Accurate

The program gives a list of design requirements to follow for the makers

Ever since the Apple Watch was announced, we had the internet flooding with news on third party accessories, which mostly included the bands. The affordable prices though seemed quite an attractive feature on these bands, but everyone was still skeptical about buying these for their original Apple device. Apple’s own options on the other hand were quite expensive and hence majority of us were inclined towards similar looking but cheaper options.

This, however, meant sacrificing on the accuracy which came along Apple’s own accessory line. To make things easier for its own customers and for third party manufacturers, Apple has started its “Made for Apple Watch” program which might sound familiar to you. The program gives a list of design requirements to follow for the makers. A similar program called the “Made for iPhone” program was launched for accessory makers for the phone.

Apple Watch easily allows for different straps and bands which can be detached and replaced with a single press of a button. The bands are attached to ‘lugs’ which can easily let go of the bands and those who become part of the program will be given these lugs. They can either have these directly from Apple or they can have the choice of making them on their own with Apple-approved materials.

The fitting of the bands is an extremely important ordeal and this explains why Apple had to step in. makers have to ensure that their bands fit well since the watch-face needs to touch the wrists for the heat sensor to work properly. Participants of the program will also need to ensure that they stay within the limits of the stated environmental regulations of the smartwatch industry and refrain from using magnetic chargers inside the straps.
