Prince to Stage a Peace Concert in Baltimore

The concert titled “Rally 4 Peace” is an effort to promote peace and unity following violent prostests over the death of Freddie Gray

Pop legend Prince is going to organize a peace concert in Baltimore on coming Sunday. The concert entitled “Rally 4 Peace” is for peace, unity and revival which have been deteriorated after the death of the Freddie Gray during the police custody.

The death of 25-year old African American sparked violent protests, arson and riots throughout the Baltimore and led to a citywide curfew, which was ultimately lifted a couple of days ago.

“In a spirit of healing, the event is meant to be a catalyst for pause and reflection following the outpouring of violence that has gripped Baltimore and areas throughout the US.” Prince’s promoter told NBC News.

The concert will take place at Royal Farms Arena on Sunday at 5 p.m. and will feature many of the superstars from the entertainment industry. Though, no official list has been provided yet. Prince has urged his fans to show up in gray as a tribute to Freddie Gray and all the victims of violence everywhere.

Prince has also recorded a song in response to Gray’s death and to the riots that erupted in the Baltimore. The song has not been released yet. A spokesperson from the pop star said that the song “addresses the unrest in Baltimore and the socio-political issues around the country in the wake of a slew of killings of young black men.”

Freddie Gray died on April 19 from a severe spine injury while he was in the police custody. Six of the police officers were charged on Thursday in connection to the death of Gray, ranging from second degree murder to assault. The violent protests which have been sparked in the urban United States after Gray’s death are most severe since the 1992 Los Angeles riots that followed the police beating of an African American Rodney King.
