- Cannes Film Festival: Woody Allen on Movies and TV
Woody Allen doesn’t make movies to compete and his foray into the small screen will be a ‘Cosmic Embarrassment’.
‘Irrational Man’ the hilarious mystery drama directed by Woody Allen will be premiering at the Cannes Film Festival at Palais. While in Cannes Allen had a chat with some reporters and explained some of his work ideology.
According to Allen he does not make movies to compete therefore his film was not part of the competition. Allen further explained he has never had a film entered into competition in his entire life and he feels films should not be compared with each other.
Allen makes films because he enjoys his work while people make them for a lot of reason, some for the money and some for the artistic expression. Allen then regaled how the classic movies like ‘The Godfather’ and the ‘Goodfellas’ cannot be compared to each other.
In January Amazon announced 79 years old Woody Allen would be writing and directing a series of online episodes with duration of only half an hour. When Allen was asked about it in a news conference (via Reuters) he described his venture to write and direct for the small screen as a ‘Catastrophic Mistake’.
Allen explained he is doing the best he can but he is struggling with the project and he never should have gotten himself into it. Allen had previously expected 30 minute shoot would be easy but they are turning out to be tough.
Allen described how doing movies is a big long process and he had figured he would easily make half hour segment, however it’s not as easy as it first seemed. Allen just hopes he does not disappoint Amazon. Allen is definitely struggling with the online series project and is not very good at it and expects the series will be a cosmic embarrassment when it comes out.
