Google about to make shopping easier by launching a ‘Buy Button’!
According to a report by Wall Street Journal, Google is about to launch a new feature called the ‘Buy Button’ on some of its apps. The ‘Buy Button’ will allow people to buy stuff more easily from their phones through the Google app.
The feature will only be included in some sponsored search results by Google such as Macy’s, a potential retail partner in the venture. The feature will be released soon in the coming weeks but it will not apply to the organic search results generated by algorithms on Google.
Users will be able to use the ‘Buy Button’ for purchases and after tapping on it they will reach a page where they can complete all other transactions. Options such as colors and size selections for clothing items will also be available along with payment details.
The ‘Buy Button’ is probably Google’s answer to the growing competition by other online retailers such as Amazon and eBay. The move also show Google is not restricted as simply a search engine but it is also meddling in other ventures and stretching its boundaries, just like last year when it also launched car insurance comparisons.
Currently Google is dominating the spot as a search engine on desktop computers but not on mobile phones as buyers usually use app from Amazon and eBay to buy stuff. The ‘Buy Button’ could not only eliminate further competition but it could make Google the number one choice on mobile phones for an array of functions.
Last month Google itself disclosed people search ten times more on mobile phones than they do on the desktop computer. For the ‘Buy Button’ to work Google will store credit card information beforehand but will not disclose it to the retailers but will reveal enough information for brand marketing to the retailers.
