Where all the film stars and filmmakers have been gathered in France to join Cannes Film Festival, actor Sylvester Stallone is there for slightly different reason and that is to promote his artwork which is on display at Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nice. The exhibit which is titled “Real Love” will run for two weeks and includes the some of the artwork which Stallone has created over the past 40 years.

The 68-year old Sylvester Stallone, who is mostly known for his action-packed Rocky and Rambo series, is a painter as well and had showcased his artwork in Switzerland, Miami and Russia before.

“Painting, without a doubt, is the most honest form of all the arts. Because, it’s simple, unforgiving, and it’s there to be studied up-close and personal, and you can’t defend it, it’s there. So I think it’s the most honest of all the arts.” Stallone said.

Stallone’s work is influenced by his own life and it feels like he has just conveyed his emotions into the canvasses.

“My art isn’t one that educates, you know, it’s not making social statements, it’s not drawing conclusions, it’s not declaring what is right, it is not political,” he said. “It’s just one man’s struggle and success and all emotions you go in life, ups and downs.”

Back in 2013, when his creations were displayed at The State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg, Stallone admitted that he is a much better painter than an actor and enjoys it more than the acting.

“It’s much more personal and I’m allowed to just do what I want to do. Quite often in acting, you have to play a certain part, you can’t speak as much as you want to speak. I suppose heroes don’t talk much, you have to be very stoic.”

Nice mayor Christian Estrosi, who was also present at the exhibition, praised Stallone’s work and tweeted that “The exposition ‘Real Love’ reveals an inspired painter, a side often overlooked.”
