Pamela Anderson stripes down for Peta in a new campaign inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho.

Pamela Anderson stripes down for a new PeTA campaign inspired by the famous shower scene in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho. Photographed by famous photographer and artist David LaChapelle, Pamela Anderson raises awareness to the issue that Meat and Diary farms drain half the country’s water.

PeTA says that the solution is not just shorter showers, it is also means to save water in animal agriculture. PeTA pushes for a Vegan life-style to reduce the meat consumption and therefore production.

“Rivers are siphoned off, not just for the animals but also for crops like alfalfa grown to feed animals on factory farms,” says Pam, a PETA honorary director and longtime vegan. “Producing 1 pound of beef uses as much water as about six months’ worth of showers.”

PeTA calculates that it takes 1,846 gallons of water to produce 1 pound of beef. This is the equivalent of 46 10-minute showers.

Water requirements for other meats according to PeTA:

Chicken: 1 pound requires 518 gallons of water, or 13 showers
Lamb: 1 pound requires 1,248 gallons of water, or 31 showers
Pork: 1 pound requires 718 gallons of water, or 18 showers

More information about this new PeTA campaign and how to pledge to go vegan on the PeTA site.

The campaign is very timely as California suffers a serious and long lasting draught that has triggered the California government to issue water consumption measures. As of /4/5, the California State Water Resources Control Board adopted an emergency regulation requiring an immediate 25 percent reduction in overall potable urban water use statewide in accordance with Gov. Jerry Brown’s April 1 Executive Order.
