A German Home shopping channel will start broadcasting in UHD via satellite starting in time of the IFA 2015.
Pearl.tv will be the first European Ultra HD channel that is accessible free via satellite. The launch of the 100% Ultra HD produced channel will be in September at the Consumer Electronics show IFA in Berlin.
The shopping channel is broadcasting live and consumers will be able to see the featured products with a resolution of 3,840×2,160px if they own a Ultra HD TV with HEVC-Decoder. The Pearl.tv UHD channel is available over the Astra satellite network. Enstyle GmbH, the production company behind pearl.tv will more details about the technical details of the UHD broadcast on July 8 in a media briefing for ahead of the IFA in Berlin.
Most 4K content is right now available online through streaming services like Netflix. Roll out of UHD broadcasting channels did not really happen yet. Some networks like DirecTV and Comcast offer a small VOD selection on 4K content.
The IFA 2015 will take place in Berlin from September 4 to 9. Ultra HD will again be a big topic at this consumer electronics show.
