iPhone 6S to debut with 12MP Sony Camera Sensor

Apple will announce the next iPhone this September with an improved 12 MP camera sensor.

With its release drawing near, speculations regarding the next iPhone have already taken over the internet by storm. The next iPhone, namely the iPhone 6S, is being rumored to be the iPhone that breaks the trend of 8 MP camera sensors that have been a part of the iPhone family since iPhone 4S. New speculations indicate that the iPhone 6S will feature a 12 MP Sony Sensor alongside Sony’s RGBW technology that would provide for some quality shots in low-light conditions.

These rumors fall perfectly in line with HIS’s report that suggested that the iPhone 6S will indeed have a 12 MP Camera and will feature smaller pixels than usual. The RGBW Coding technology from Sony that is being rumored to accompany the 12 MP Sensor of the iPhone 6S will add a “W”(white) sub-pixel into the conventional RGB sub-pixel mix. This is apparently what will allow for high-quality images in low-light situations and with less noise.

Furthermore, this extra white subpixel will also compensate for the smaller pixel size. It is also worth noting that the Japanese media has spilled the beans on the fact that Apple was initially planning to use this same setup for its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Later on, the company decided to wait for another year to improve on this technology further so that it would meet the necessary quality standards. We cannot feel more excited about the upcoming iPhone 6S. The new sensor alongside apple’s exceptional software tweaks is surely going to make this the camera to beat in 2015.
