Apple Watch Native SDK to be Unveiled at WWDC says Jeff Williams

Apple’s operations chief Jeff Williams appeared on stage at the Code Conference and talked about the Apple Watch and what is next.

The reason why Apple Watch apps suck so much right now is that they are not native. Apple is still working on a native Apple Watch SDK that enables developers to create apps that actually run on the Apple Watch and access its sensors.

At the Code conference organized by Re/Code Apple’s operations chief Jeff Williams revealed that the native Apple Watch SDK will be introduced at the WWDC 2015 next month. It will be still a preview according to Williams.

The native SDK will be a turning point for Apple Watch apps. Eventually future Apple Watch versions will work without the iPhone entirely. I am now almost three weeks into wearing the Apple Watch and I am convinced that this is going to be a successful product category for Apple. It is already useful and what I love the most that it is extremely easy to use and does not require any tweaking. It just works. 

It is important though like it was for the iPhone that cool apps are adding new value that has not been available before.

Williams also revealed that he has been testing Android Wear smart watches but has quickly lost interest as they did not help Apple figuring out what the Apple Watch should be. He also said in the on stage chat with Walt Mossberg that damind for the Apple Watch has been fantastic and sold a lot of them. He obviously did not mention numbers.
