The deadly incident killed comedian James McNair and left three people seriously injured including Tracy Morgan.
Actor and comedian Tracy Morgan has reached a settlement with Walmart on Wednesday over a deadly car crash that killed one man and left Morgan and his two friends seriously injured.
The incident took place back in June 2014 when a Walmart truck slammed into the back of a limo bus carrying Tracy Morgan and his friend comedian James McNair, Ardie Fuqua and Jeffery Millea as they were coming back from a show in Delaware. The devastating collision took the life of McNair. The other three survived in the accident but sustained critical injuries. Morgan precisely suffered a severe head injury, a broken leg, broken ribs and minor facial injuries.
Morgan and other two filed a lawsuit against Walmart, accusing Walmart truck driver responsible for the accident and claiming that he had been awake continuously for more than 24 hours before the crash happened.
The preliminary report by National Transportation Safety Board further suggests that truck was traveling 65 mph before colliding with Morgan’s limo bus which was 20 mph over the speed limit that night.
Walmart has already settled the lawsuit with McNair’s family earlier this year. The corporation and the attorney for Tracy Morgan announced the latest settlement on Wednesday.
“Our thoughts continue to go out to everyone that was involved in the accident,” Walmart president and CEO Greg Foran said in a statement. “While we know there is nothing that can change what happened, Walmart has been committed to doing what’s right to help ensure the well-being of all of those who were impacted by the incident. We are deeply sorry that one of our trucks was involved.”
Tracy Morgan, who has been working on his both physical and mental recovery, greatly appreciated the way the situation has been handled by Walmart. “Walmart did right by me and my family, and for my associates and their families. I am grateful that the case was resolved amicably.” However the terms and conditions of the settlement have not been disclosed by any side.
The 46-year old Tracy Morgan is best known for his role in comedy series “30 Rock” and as a cast member of “Saturday Night Live” from 1996 to 2003. Morgan was willing to attend the 40th anniversary of Saturday Night Live but he could not appear due to the severe nature of his injuries.
